However, instead of finding romance, many people encounter a scammer attempting to deceive them into giving money. In an attempt to gain your trust, scammers establish an emotional connection with you by speaking on occasion or communicating multiple times a day. After that, they construct a tale and demand payment. In 2021, people reported a record loss of $547 million to romance scams.
